The Town of Bluffton has begun installing approximately a quarter mile of concrete and oyster shell sidewalks around the perimeter of grassy area of Oscar Frazier Park known as the “Field of Dreams.” This sidewalk will connect the pavilion and the Rotary Community Center as well as give walkers, joggers and bicyclists a sidewalk around the perimeter of the park.
The contractor, Savannah-based APAC-Atlantic, was awarded the $78,671 contract and the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
“Every year, the Town is able to add another feature to Oscar Frazier Park, one of the Town’s most frequently-visited parks,” Mayor Lisa Sulka said. “Town leaders are pleased to begin the sidewalk projects which will enable more people to use the field area for more activities and enhance the enjoyment of this amenity.”
The sidewalk installation is the latest project fulfilling the Oscar Frazier Park Master Plan. Developed in 2018, the master plan is a blueprint which guides the park projects. The Town, along with civic organization partners such as the Rotary Club of Bluffton and Leadership Class of Hilton Head-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, has added new playground equipment, synthetic turf, pavilion/restrooms, dog park, lighting and landscaping. The master plan calls for future additions such as formalizing an outdoor gathering space, installing tennis courts, lighting, site furnishing and landscaping.
The playground, pavilion and restroom will remain open during the sidewalk installation. Sections of the field may be intermittently closed during the installation. Please be mindful of the construction crew and signs during this process.
