Town of Bluffton cancels SC Beach Sweep/River Sweep

The Town of Bluffton’s Annual Beach Sweep/River Sweep, scheduled for September 19, 2020, is canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This event is coordinated by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) and the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium (SC Sea Grant). These agencies have decided that the health and safety of our site captains, volunteers, and communities across South Carolina are the priority. In lieu of this event, the Town is encouraging residents to participate in a virtual Neighborhood Cleanup.

The virtual Neighborhood Cleanup gives families an opportunity to contribute to the overall well-being of Bluffton as a community who works together to protect the May River and our regional natural resources and marine species from litter and pollution. The attached flyer details this effort as well as offers COVID-19 safety tips for the virtual cleanup.

Town leaders and staff are encouraging all who participate to take a photograph of your efforts and share them on the Town’s social media venues such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #loveblufftonsc.

Town leaders and staff members are grateful for everyone and every organization which makes the spring May River Cleanup and the fall Beach/River Sweep a success each year.

The Town of Bluffton is also thankful for the many partners whose commitment of time and resources greatly contributes to the success of these annual events. The Town’s partners include Lowcountry Stormwater Partners, Bluffton and Hardeeville Walmart stores, i2 Recycle, Corner Perk, the Outside Foundation, Marshgrass Adventures, Outside Hilton Head, Waste Management, the Coastal Conservation League, Palmetto Running Company, Palmetto Pride, Port Royal Sound Foundation, the Beaufort County Conservation District, Keep Beaufort County Beautiful, and Beaufort County Solid Waste and Recycling.
