Welcome and thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer at the Bluffton Police Department. There are several areas within the department that a volunteer can provide their time and expertise. The most common area is the front desk. There, each volunteer welcome's visitors as they enter the police department. This is a very important role due to you being the initial impression on a visitor. At the front desk, you are also responsible for answering the phones and assisting in a variety of areas. Our volunteers also help with our C.A.R.E. program. The Community Assistance Response Efforts is an outreach program. The program is designed for disabled, homebound, or elderly residents who have elected to be in the program. If a volunteer chooses to be part of CARE, that volunteer will call the resident once or twice a week to chat and check on their well-being. If volunteers are unable to make contact, or if the volunteer detects a problem, an officer is sent by the home to check on the individual.
Background checks are conducted on all those who apply to be a volunteer. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer at the Bluffton Police Department, please contact Lt. Paul Gannon at 843-706-4568 or pgannon[at]townofbluffton.com.
