Bluffton Town Council is soliciting applications from town residents, business owners and property owners interested in being considered for an appointment to one of the Town of Bluffton's Boards, Commissions, and Committees.

Description

The seven (7) member Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee is required to advise Town Council on the distribution and expenditure of accommodations tax revenue for municipalities receiving over $50,000 per the South Carolina Code of Laws, Section 6-4-25(A) known as the Accommodations Tax Act. The majority of members must represent the hospitality industry, including two (2) from the lodging industry and at least one from a Cultural Organization. Accommodations Tax Grant Applications requesting funds are due by the last day of each quarter. The Committee meetings are set within 45 days after the quarter end and the committee recommendations are presented at the next Bluffton Town Council meeting.

Description

The seven (7) member Affordable Housing Committee is tasked with assisting and advising Town Council on the establishment of affordable housing criteria for Town sponsored affordable housing development projects and initiatives as well as defining the Town's affordable housing goals, guidelines, & policies, and funding mechanisms per the Committee's establishment by a majority vote of Town Council on January 12, 2010 and Town Council Resolution adopted on August 11, 2015 establishing the Charter for the Committee. The Affordable Housing Committee meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. at Town Hall, unless otherwise posted.

Description

The five (5) member Beautification Committee which is tasked with assisting and advising Town Council with the adoption, periodic review, and implementation of the Town of Bluffton Beautification Master Plan, furthering intergovernmental and private sector relationships and initiatives for beautification, and maintaining the criteria necessary for Tree City USA designation per the Town Council Resolution adopted on July 17, 2012, and last revised on February 19, 2013, establishing the Committee. The Beautification Committee meets on the third Thursday of each month at 10:00 a.m. at Town Hall, unless otherwise posted.

Description

The five (5) member Board of Zoning Appeals is required for the determination of appeals from administrative decisions of the Unified Development Ordinance Administrator on matters pertaining to zoning and granting or denying applications for variances or special exceptions per the South Carolina Local Government Comprehensive Planning Enabling Act of 1994, Section 6-29-780(A). The Board of Zoning Appeals meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at Town Hall, unless otherwise posted.

Description

The nine (9) member Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals is required to hear and decide appeals of orders, decision, or determinations of the Building Official per the South Carolina Code of Laws, Section 6-9-10(A). The Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at Town Hall, unless otherwise posted.

Description

The seven (7) member Historic Preservation Commission is required to maintain the Old Bluffton Historic District National Register status, administer the District's architectural regulations for new construction and renovations of existing structures, and determine appeals from administrative decisions of the Unified Development Ordinance Administrator in the administration of regulations for the District per the South Carolina Local Government Comprehensive Planning Enabling Act of 1994, Section 6-29-780(a). The Historic Preservation Commission meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at Town Hall, unless otherwise posted.

Description

The six (6) member May River Watershed Action Plan Implementation Committee is tasked with assisting and advising Town Council by offering guidance and recommendations to implement the opportunities and strategies outlined in the May River Watershed Action Plan per the Town Council Resolution adopted on May 8, 2012 establishing the Committee. Meetings of the May River Watershed Action Plan Implementation Committee are held quarterly on the fourth Tuesday in January, April, July and October at 10:00 a.m. at Town Hall, unless otherwise posted.

Description

The three (3) member Municipal Election Commission is required to conduct, supervise and manage municipal, special, and general elections, certify election results, and hear any protests arising from the election per the South Carolina Code of Laws, Section 5-15-90(A). Meetings of the Municipal Election Commission are scheduled as necessary.

Description

The six (6) member Negotiating Committee is tasked with assisting Town Council by coordinating and negotiating on behalf of the Town with applicants, property owners, and their representatives to define proposals, terms, and commitments related to Annexation petitions, Development Agreements and any subsequent modifications per the Town Council Resolution adopted on July 20, 2010 establishing the Committee. Meetings of the Negotiating Committee are scheduled as necessary.

Description

The seven (7) member Planning Commission is required to draft, review, and propose amendments to the Comprehensive Plan and Unified Development Ordinance, approve or deny applications related to land development and street naming/renaming, review and make recommendations for proposed annexations or zoning map amendments, propose policies and procedures to facilitate the implementation of the Town's planning efforts, propose an annual Capital Improvements Program, and determine appeals from administrative decisions of the Unified Development Ordinance Administrator in the administration of land development regulations per the South Carolina Local Government Comprehensive Planning Enabling Act of 1994, Section 6-29-780(A). The Planning Commission meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at Town Hall, unless otherwise posted.

Description

The five (5) member Wall of Honor Committee is tasked with advising Town Council by recommending citizens of distinction for inclusion on the Wall of Honor at the Theodore D. Washington Municipal Building per the Committee's establishment by a majority vote of Town Council on November 9, 2010. Meetings of the Wall of Honor committee are scheduled as necessary.

Description

The thirteen (13) member Water Quality Technical Advisory Committee is tasked with assisting and advising Town Council by objectively evaluating the Town's water quality monitoring programs, statistically evaluating data and describing the trends they exhibit, and providing technical guidance for further studies and courses of action per the Committee's establishment by a majority vote of Town Council on March 16, 2010. Meetings of the Water Quality Technical Advisory Committee are scheduled as necessary.
